Every new parent knows this confluence of overwhelming love and exhaustion, of tenderness and concern. And every new grandparent will recognize the significance of this moment, the passing of the generational torch, the impact of see your baby holding her baby. I think it must be one of the most fundamental of human questions—where does the time go?
The season is in full shift as we find ourselves steeping in the magic of late summer. There’s a haze in the early mornings now, giving way as the sun rises to that particular slant of early autumnal light. I need a sweater for coffee on the porch—and the walnuts are starting to plunk down on the roof. Are we already nearing the end of August?
